Our History
The Beginning
- 1971: Calvin Short and his son, Lonnie, establish Short Agency as a partnership in Ohio, initially focusing on real estate.
- 1972: Both Calvin and Lonnie become licensed insurance agents, adding insurance services to their offerings.
- Family Effort: Lonnie, with the support of his sister Peg Rufenacht, focuses on expanding the insurance side of the business.
Growth and Expansion
- 1977: Transition from partnership to corporation, with Calvin and Lonnie sharing ownership equally.
- 1979: Opening of a second office in Wauseon, managed by Terry Short, Calvin’s son.
- 1980: Terry becomes a co-owner, joining Calvin and Lonnie in leading the agency.
- 1990: Calvin sells his share, leaving Lonnie and Terry as equal partners.
Fast Forward to Today
- Current Leadership: Under Zach Pursel’s ownership, Short Agency operates from a single office in Archbold.
- 2022: Transition to a cloud-based business model, allowing for streamlined operations.
- Focus on Insurance: Following the retirement of key real estate personnel, the agency now focuses solely on insurance.
- Future Ready: Equipped with knowledgeable agents and a commitment to service, Short Agency is positioned for continued growth.
